This is how I made mine.
Click POST to your journal.
Click on the DATE OUT OF ORDER.
Change 2011 to a different year, like 2020. This way, it will always remain the first entry in your journal.
Then just start typing information about each of your fics.

To create links from your fic list to your fics, go here for html code and directions.

I hope this was easy enough for you.

I'm not sure I get it; going to try. Thanks.

Don't hesitate to ask more questions, okay?

[identity profile] onthethruway01.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I did something, but I'm not sure it worked.

Okay, so you're not going to include the fic title, pairing, genre, rating, length, etc.? That's what I meant when I said to write the information for each fic.

Before the link, you'll need to enter the following in this order (without the commas):
<, a, href, =, and "

Then after the link, you'll enter:
", >, a title for the link (i.e. Chapter 1), <, /, a, and >.

Hope this helps.

Don't enter the word "and" either.

Aww. Don't say that. Everyone has a tough time understanding it the first time. I know I struggled with the code.

You can send me the links to your fics and I'll put them into the code and then email them to you.

There's lots of fics. I usually go to my tags page and click on them. Maybe it would be easier to organize the tags and do a post like you said with a "2020" date on it? Or maybe just an entirely new LJ account just for the fics.

What do you think?

[identity profile] missvue09.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say do whatever is easiest for you, but then again, you DO have a lot of tags. Maybe creating a comm for your fics can help you get rid of some of your tags in this journal. Yeah, you should create a comm for your fics.

starting a new account is easy, but how do I transfer the stuff over? Cut and past seems awful. Do I post links? I still don't know how to do that link thing.

How do delete my tags anyway? Sorry for all the questions. I really need to do something.

[identity profile] missvue09.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think you may have to copy and paste everything.
Read: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=195&q=%20entries

Since you're repasting everything into the new account, you won't have to create links.

To delete tags, go to MANAGE TAGS on http://www.livejournal.com/ under JOURNAL. Select the tags you want to delete and click REMOVE SELECTED TAG(S).

thanks for all your help. I may need to do this on the big computer. I don't trust this laptop

I've decided to clean up the tags first. Then maybe I'll delete a few irrelevant, old posts. After I've cleaned up the tags and the posts, maybe I can figure out what to do about organizing the fics.

Sounds like a plan! Good luck!

thanks

didn't work. I'm hopeless.

For future reference

Just in case you ever reconsider trying to make a master fic list.

I just realized an error in my instructions.
The DATE OUT OF ORDER button is not visible until you click on EDIT, which is right next to the date.
Change the year from 2011 to a year after 2011.
Then click on the DATE OUT OF ORDER button.

Doing this will keep your master list at the top of your journal.

I see your tags have slimmed down.

I will continue to slim down those tags

I was wondering, if I decided not to do a master fic list but really narrow the tags, would you suggest I use the titles of the fics as tags which some have already or just the genre, ie "angst" "fluff" etc. That way if someone didn't like angst, they could avoid that tag rather than clicking on the title of a fic only to find angst or some other horrible thing, lol.

[identity profile] missvue09.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I would go with the title as a tag. Suppose I don't like reading angst and I happen to click on a title of a fic only to find angst, then I would just click on another title tag; It's no bother.

Maybe you can post a separate entry and ask this question to everybody.
