Haters to the left...

Dear LJ,

I love my fandom.  It's not easy for a 40 something white  woman to admit to her friends and family that she is obsessed with Korean pop bands.  As a child I faced religious persecution.  As a grown up I've cringed as my co-workers bashed anyone who wasn't white.  I got into fandom as a fluke, and I'm loving every minute of it.  I enjoy reading and writing fan fiction.  I like drawing, doing macros and posting pics and discussing music with you all.  But it distresses me when I go to read some news or see a video of a group I like and find people trashing them so rudely.

Why can't we; a group of people from all faiths, races, and walks of life, enjoy our hobbies without being haters?  Do you want someone to continuously say bad things about the celebrities you like?  What ever happened to diplomacy?  Come on now!  I know you guys are young, but don't let your teenage / young adult angst get in the way of your judgment.

If you really and truly hate a band with a passion, it doesn't matter.  Your cruel words are unnecessary.  Instead of writing  "I think they are shitty and should just quit,"  why not say.  "I'll pass, not interested."  It shows they are not your "cup of tea" without being nasty.

Do you want to be like those sad people who made Jay Park go home?  Do you want to stoop to their level? Maybe that seems harsh, but as someone who supports all of K pop ( yes I do; I support the whole genre even if i don't follow each individual band), I'm finding it hard to remain calm as one of my favorite groups is continually put down.

I could be a bitch and trash your bands.  Would you like that?  I can be pretty nasty if I so chose.  But instead, I remain calm and let it pass.  I would like to believe that there is some amount of maturity out there.  Don't disappoint me ladies and gentlemen (yes, fanboys, I know you are out there).

Let's unite together as intelligent people who enjoy all aspects of Asian pop music.  Wish the new bands luck, and if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.

Remember:  Yoochun is always watching you.....

Mazeltov, abi gezunt!

Thank you!
I was thinking “I’m so not-cool” because is so cool in omona to be a total bitch (sorry). I try NOT to read the comments but sometimes is very hard not to, and unfortunately sometimes I get really upset.
I still have to understand their motivation. I understand you can dislike a band… may be you can hate a band… but waste your energy making rude comments and all is kind of pointless.
Thank you. Please never become a bitch too, you are to awesome for that! ^^

Amen sista
You speak the truth young grasshopper. lol They have hate communities for a reason they should go over there to vent and only put constructive critisism or polite dislike on the big diverse communities. Because, really,
Hear it
And neither do I. XD

All the hate just makes them look like those crazy netizens we all harp on lol

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. People forget that words do hurt :/ As fans we should all just get along because we like the same thing (kpop is kpop regardless of the band or whatever) I can't stand bashing and when I see those wanks about bands, I just stay away...I may not like the same bands but I refrain from bashing them. Good post, unnie :D

I know I've said this before but whatever people say about your fandom, tell them to shove it... I had my fair share of it. Even with in my own family lol I just ignore it because they don't know what they are missing out on :D

If the K pop artists from different groups can get together, why can't we?

PREACH.
I agree with you completely. WHY do people like to show their hate so much? That's what makes this world suck so much, doesn't it?

And Yoochun...
I thought I have this awesome photo with Yoochun with his "WATCHING" shirt, but no. T_T

AAAAAAAAAAND! Today's backstage Yonghwa/Dongjoon/Leeu was PRECIOUS. I screamed so much omg.
Especially when Leeu did a little Mazeltov dance and Dongjoon sang Jiggy. OMG. <3

I just don't comment if I'm not interested in the band. I don't even go into the posts. And if i seriously dislike them (it's SNSD for me), why would I bother wasting my precious time leaving a hateful comment when I could spend that time/effort leaving spazzy comments in DBSK posts?

People who really HAVE TO LEAVE A COMMENT (even negative ones) OR DIE need to get a life. Seriously.

And I think you should post it in the FFA even though due to time difference and work I can't be there for the discussion D:

I think i love you for writing this, and i can relate to you. i still haven't told anyone i like kpop because i'm biracial and apparently it ~weird~ to like asian pop music if your not asian yourself :/.

Sorry to randomly comment but it has to be done. YOU are a GENIUS. Thank you so much for writing this. I've been a fan of Kpop for about 7-8 years and, as a white woman myself, I relate to you, it's hard to express the love I have for my randoms to other people that JUST don't understand it and label me as 'abnormal'. For me, the bashing has become so out of control, as you said, if you don't like someone WHY make the effort to insult them? I've never understood the mentality of haters... I much prefer adoring my babies than cursing someone elses pride and joy out of the water. I am very much a silent reader of everywhere I go (which is pretty much everywhere for Kpop) and it's on rare occasions like this that I feel the NEED to post. So again, you rock, you're spot on and the bashing needs to end. ZE:A FANS UNITE <3 (I'm so bad at voicing my opinions via text XD Hence I'm a silent reader bahaha).

gyaaah. haters disgust me
Photobucket

i don't understand why people would act like that...why should i give a shit what bands YOU like? it's cool that we like a lot of the same music but why the hell would someone freak out if people like a band that they don't like?

pfft. whatevs. just tell them to kiss your ass and go on. it shouldn't matter what they say.

I hear you!
I'm not into kpop, only Jpop and I mean Johnnys, but I can relate.
I'll be 30 the next month and I suppose it's because of our age. I'd hate to say I'm an elitist about the age but I never came accross fangirls my age who bash people. We're so over that. I mean I don't want to rush those girls to grow up, I know now how it's hard to live above 25, but I'd like them to stop being bitches, cause that's only what they are.

[identity profile] dannyupshaw.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a 30-year-old woman who likes kpop, jpop and cpop. We should have a secret handshake.

THIS. All of this, so much. Thank you for posting this.
I just accidently came across a post by someone else that bashed just about every band I've ever liked, and this was exactly what I needed to read.
It's good to see that there are still people in this fandom with some common sense. ;)
Thank you.

Stumbled upon this entry of yours in the ZE:A-post in OMONA.
I agree with everything you wrote here. There are lots of groups I don't follow or listen to some groups in the Kpop scene but that doesn't mean it would ever give me the right to bash on them in any way.
I'm still quite worked out of the whole Jay-thing and the fact how so many fans just suddenly switched sides just like, well, turning from Hottest to coldest. -_- It disappoints the hell out of me, because the haters can't never understand how much the whole thing stressed both 2PM and Jay - I mean like, do they need hating on them right now? If it was for me, I'm supporting them, will always support. /rant

Okay forgive this ramble over this XDD The point was that I agree with this entry, thank you for pointing this out.

You're amazing. You just made my night, thank you so very much. ♥

The whole concept of being an anti-fan is beyond me. I suppose some ppl love to hate & the object of hatred doesn't even matter that much.
Bashing what other ppl like (online, because most are closeted haters) to let out bad emotions and to feel better about themselves?
I suggest they start pursuing some active sport to get the poison out of their systems, but it's not like somebody will listen to me lol
I appreciate all of kpop, too. Even if I don't like some particular song or band, I see the effort they put into their work. Kpop artists work so hard and sacrifice so much... How can ppl not appreciate it?

[identity profile] decodexx.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I agree sfm. I've been thinking this for a while, it's nice to know another person feels strongly about it too. [=

love the pic at the end lol.

Great post--thanks for linking it to me.

I want to add that even if you wrote this over a year, it's still so relevant. And that makes me particularly sad.
