Pretty much. I used to use "drawing" pencils with different thicknesses, but I find that I prefer mechanical pencils. Lately my daughter confiscates my pencils so I use what I can find. However, when it comes to drawing hair, the "art pencils" come in handy because you can show thickness of the hair etc. I've been experimenting with pen and ink lately too, but for my portraits, it's strictly pencils. I do use photoshop afterwards to crop or change the brightness/contrast if it needs it. Sometimes I use a scanner and sometimes I use my cell phone. I use an online program called lunapic to add my signature.
I really need to get back into portrait drawing. I used to be really good. But I haven't picked up a pencil for about 5 years ... /sighs/ ... Maybe one day. There are so many pictures of Yoochun that I want to draw. His neck/collarbones and the shadows on them are just CRYING and BEGGING to be drawn ...
...
...
and now I'm thinking of Yoochun crying and begging ... yay :)
